North American Technician Excellence (NATE)

NATE CertifiedNATE is North America’s largest and most prominent certification in the HVAC industry. NATE certified technicians have mastered the installation, service and maintenance practice of heating and cooling equipment and can gain recognition in the following areas of specialty:

  • Air conditioning
  • Air distribution
  • Heat pumps
  • Gas heating
  • Oil heating
  • Hydronics gas
  • Hydronics oil
  • Ground source heat pump loop installer
  • Senior HVAC Efficiency Analyst

Industry Competency Exams (ICE)

Industry Competency ExamsAdministered by NATE, Industry Competency Exams offer certification in industry-accepted standards for first year technicians. More than 300 schools require students to participate in at least one exam so many technicians have earned certification before graduating. Earning residential certification requires the technician to pass a core section of Safety, Tools, Soft Skills; Heat Transfer & Comfort; or Electrical in addition to a specialty section in air conditioning, air distribution, heat pumps, gas furnaces and oil furnaces.
